The Salle Pierre Mercure is located at 300 De Maisonneuve Blvd. East, Montreal (Qc) H2X 3X6 (Telephone: 514-987-4691)
Inaugurated in 1992, the Pierre-Mercure concert hall which is housed in the Pierre-Peladeau Center, has rapidly become a meeting place for savvy music lovers. The Pierre-Peladeau Center has been at the forefront of Montreal's cultural community with its exceptional facilities: The 845-seat Pierre-Mercure concert hall, two vast rehearsal studios, an extended backstage area with several loges and its public spaces comprized of the main hall, the bars, the foyer area and box office. This venue is also very conveniently located right next to the Berri-UQAM subway station, and only four street blocks away from Highway 20. It also features an indoor parking on Sanguinet Street as well as easy access to people with limited mobility.
The exceptional quality of its acoustics and the warmth of its decor make this an ideal venue for musical performances. Its simple elegance, far from being distracting, has a relaxing effect that only enhances the listening enjoyment of music fans. Its relatively intimate size also favours an ideal rapport between artists and the public.
Although it is ideally suited to musical performances, the concert hall also features technical facilities that can accommodate many other art forms. In fact, it regular presents plays, dance performances, documentaries, operas, and multidisciplinary shows.
Here is what Claude Gingras of La Presse has to say about this jewel of architecture: "The clarity this magnificent, natural sound, is characteristic of the acoustics of this hall. The sounds of the instruments are rendered perfectly, with the utmost detail, and the loudest fortissimo flow without any overload. This exceptional sound quality is only enhanced by the elegant and restrained visual impact of the hall, especially the beautiful brown maple conch above the stage, so soothing to the eye." Claude Gingras, La Presse, 23 octobre 1992.
Several respected companies have made the Pierre-Mercure concert hall their venue of choice, including such famous names as O Vertigo, la Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, Les Idées Heureuses, Ensemble Constantinople and the Montreal Philharmonic.
